Friday Favorites: Muss & Turners, Food Writing, and More!

Well, this week has been…weird. I was on vacation last weekend and we were supposed to come home Monday night. And we did, but four hours past our scheduled time! Thanks to Atlanta’s stormy weather our 7:00 p.m. flight became an 11:00 p.m. flight. So while I’ve had a short work week it’s felt quite long in other ways.

But, it’s Friday! So here are my favorites.

First of all, I highly recommend Jupiter as a weekend getaway (more on that in another post). Second of all, when you get to Jupiter you need to visit Jupiter Donut Factory FIRST thing in the morning. This place gets crazy busy! It’s Jupiter’s only craft doughnut shop and the doughnuts are so good. I met up with a gal pal from college and we got six to sample. I loved the one in the picture: strawberry bark! As commenters mention, it looks just like those strawberry shortcake pops from when were kids.

Favorite new restaurant: Muss & Turners East Cobb.

I was really bummed when I heard that Common Quarter was going out of business – East Cobb really doesn’t have a great local dining scene – but perked back up when I found out that Muss & Turners was going in. I live down the street from Muss & Turners in Smyrna, so I know how good their food is. During the day it’s a deli/ fast casual set-up with tempting sandwiches, salads, and soups, and at night it becomes a sit-down restaurant with a high-end dinner menu. I’ve only done dinner a couple of times and it’s very good, but I prefer to go to M&T for lunch. Check out this bagel I had for lunch at the new spot!

It was served alongside house kippered salmon, hard boiled eggs, cream cheese, pickled green tomato, and greens. Treat yourself to an “evil” chocolate chip cookie and a cup of Rev coffee afterward.

Favorite thing I’m reading: Best Food Writing 2016

I’m trying to step up my writing game and something that a friend recommended is reading other people’s writing. Holly Hughes scours publications for the best works throughout the year and compiles it into a collection every year. I finally bought myself the 2016 collection when I was in South Florida hoping to read it on the plane. I’m not too far into it yet, but I really like what I’ve read so far!
