About Us
Welcome to the Cardigan Kitchen Blog.
Want to feed someone, touch lives, and make the world a better place, just by getting served a special delicacy of your choice? You’ve come to the right place.
The Cardigan Kitchen strives to achieve a blend of taste and humanity. We’re a not-for-profit dedicated to impressing your taste buds with tasty meals, while at the same time ensuring that the needy in our societies do not starve. We believe in the saying, “a hungry man is an angry man.” A hungry man would terrorize his community in a bid to get fed.
We achieve this through the sale of specially prepared dishes at prices slightly higher than usual. Every meal purchased contributes about four meal packets to our foodlanthropic endeavor.
An Overview
Food is life; every human needs food. It plays an essential role in our lives. Without it, we can’t survive. It transcends daily sustenance; acts as a symbol of love and hope. Food brings people together. It ensures the continued growth and development of the human race.
However, its availability is not evenly distributed among the human population, due to variations in socioeconomic characteristics. While the struggle of some people is in choosing the right and healthy diet, that of others lies in getting just about anything to fill their stomachs. Good food is a myth to many around the world, and this has, in no doubt, contributed to the rising crime rate across the globe.
To combat this, many NGOs, not-for-profits, private establishments like the Cardigan Kitchen, etc. have, over the years, come up with various initiatives, geared towards making food available for the less privileged and hungry folks. One of such initiatives is Foodlanthropy.
What Is Foodlanthropy?
Formed from a contraction of two distinct words, Food and Philanthropy, Foodlanthropy can be described as the desire to enhance the welfare of others, usually expressed through the generous donation of food and food materials to charities and other good causes. It could be from an individual or an organization.
In many parts of the world, foodlanthropy takes several dimensions. It ranges from an individual donating raw or ready-made food materials to the needy within their locality to not-for-profit organizations being set up, where foods are donated and subsequently made available to those in need of them, through a network of community agencies.
The most common one, however, involves ‘foodlanthropic’ restaurants serving special meals at more significant rates than normal and using the proceeds from such endeavor to provide food for starving people around. This practice is what we’ve adopted at the Cardigan Kitchen.
Our Products and Services
At the Cardigan Kitchen, we offer a wide range of delicacies to choose from. We provide local American and continental dishes. Apple pie, chicken salad, clam chowder, deep-dish pizza, lobster rolls, reindeer sausage, peach cobbler, and more are some of the local dishes that can be found at our outlets. Continental dishes we deal in include pasta, steaks, coconut soup, scrambled eggs, prawns, roast thyme and garlic chicken, kale soup, vegetarian crockpot soup, etc.
We render humanitarian support services. We go from community to community, feeding the hungry and helping the needy. We act as intermediaries between well-meaning individuals and those in need.
As a people-driven endeavor majorly geared towards humanitarian support, donations would be much appreciated. They would complement proceeds generated from the sale of our special meals to boost our geographical coverage.
Our Achievements
Right from the moment of commencing operations in 2010, we’ve always been working towards attaining our aim of reducing the number of hungry people in our communities significantly, thereby cutting down on the crime rate. We’ve had an impressive run so far, and our achievements speak for us.
Since 2010, the Cardigan Kitchen has touched not less than 30,000 lives across six states in the United States, through our various outlets and foodlanthropic movements. Our venture has attracted thousands of donations from people of all caliber, who share our vision.
In 2018, the Cardigan Kitchen was honored with the Excellence in Leadership and National Development through Philanthropy award by the Citizens Humanitarian Awards, for our service to humanity.
Within ten years of existence, we’ve been able to expand our bases of operation to six American states. The states are Louisiana, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Alaska, and Tennessee. Our headquarters is located in Louisiana.
